Caramel Apple Shortcakes

  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon, ground
  • 2 tbsp Icing/powdered sugar
  • 1 Little light brown sugar to sprinkle on the top
  • 1 Pinch Nutmeg, ground
  • 2 1/2 cups Plain flour
  • 1 Pinch Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp White sugar

  • 1 stick Butter, unsalted

  • 1 3/4 cup Double (heavy cream
  • 3 Medium or 4 small crisp apples, peeled, cored and sliced thinly (i used a mixture of granny smith and braeburn
  • 1 Small or ½ of a large egg, beaten lightly for egg wash, optional
