Description

These canapés are the perfect savoury bite for a New Years Eve party. They take just 35 minutes to prepare and can be made well in advance, so you can focus on having fun with your guests

Ingredients

  • 1 x 375g pack ready-rolled puff pastry
  • 150g (5oz) goats cheese
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3 thyme sprigs, leaves picked
  • 2 tsp clear honey, plus extra to serve

Directions

  • These canapés are the perfect savoury bites for a New Years Eve party. They take just 35 minutes to prepare and can be made well in advance, so you can focus on having fun with your guests. With creamy goats cheese, light puff pastry and sweet honey, party food ideas dont get better than this!  Line 2 baking sheets with nonstick baking paper. Unroll the pastry and cut into 36 x 4cm (1 1/2in) squares. Score a 5mm (1/4in) border inside the edges of each square (being careful not to cut all the way through). Prick the centres 2 or 3 times with a fork, then transfer to the baking sheets. Chill for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to gas 7, 220°C, fan 200°C. Cut the goat’s cheese into 36 small pieces – one for each square. Remove the pastry squares from the fridge and brush with the egg. Top each square with a piece of goat’s cheese, then scatter over the thyme and season. Drizzle with a little honey, but don’t add too much at this stage or it will catch in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes, or until puffed and golden. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on the tray for 5 minutes, before transferring to a serving platter. Drizzle with a little extra honey. Tip: The egg-washed bites can be frozen for up to 3 months; defrost in the fridge before baking. Alternatively, assemble up to the point of baking a day ahead; cover and chill. Add thyme and honey just before baking. See more Festive party food ideas Textingredients Email recipe details Print recipe
