Steak Pie: A Scottish Hogmanay Tradition

  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 2 Carrots, large
  • 3 stalks Celery
  • 1 handful Flat leaf parsley, fresh
  • 3 Garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup Mushrooms
  • 2 Onions, medium
  • 3 sprigs Thyme, fresh

• Refrigerated

  • 1 Egg

• Canned Goods

  • 1/2 cup Vegetable stock, homemade

• Baking & Spices

  • 2 tbsp Chickpea flour

• Bread & Baked Goods

  • 1 package Ready-made puff pastry - we used dufour's

• Dairy

  • 1 tbsp Butter

• Beer, Wine & Liquor

  • 1 bottle Non-hoppy beer
  • 1/2 cup Red wine

• Other

  • 1 pound braising steak, cut into 1 inch cubes and seasoned with salt & pepper
  • Cheesecloth and kitchen string to enclose the bouquet
