Traditional Spice Cookies with Cloves

• Baking & Spices

  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 2 tsp Baking soda
  • 2 cups Brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 4 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp Cloves, ground
  • 3 1/2 cups Flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 cups Shortening
  • 2 tsp Vanilla

• Nuts & Seeds

  • 2 cups Pecans

Ingredients

• 2 cups shortening
• 2 cups granulated sugar
• 2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)
• 4 eggs
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 2 teaspoons vanilla
• 1½ teaspoons ground cloves
• 4 teaspoons cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 3½ cups flour
• 2 cups finely chopped pecans (optional)

Directions

• Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
• Beat eggs. Add shortening, sugars, and vanilla and beat.
• Add dry ingredients and mix.
• Drop by teaspoonfuls (roll into a ball in your palm) onto greased cookie sheet.
• Flatten with bottom of floured glass.
• Bake for 10-12 minutes in the upper part of the oven.
• Cookies will spread out and puff up and then fall when taken out of the oven.
• Place on wire racks and immediately sprinkle with powdered sugar and cool.
• Store in airtight containers.
• The cookies freeze well.
