Ingredients

  • 2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon shortening (optional)
  • 1/2 cup green candy melts
  • disposable decorating bag
  • pretzel sticks
  • 5 candy canes, crushed

Directions

  • Line a baking tray with wax paper and set aside. Put the green candy melts in the disposable decorating bag. Have your crushed candy canes and pretzel sticks ready.
  • Place the white chocolate chips and shortening (if using, it thins the chocolate for better consistency, but it isn’t necessary) in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 90 seconds at 70 percent power. Stir and continue to microwave at 30 second, then 15 second, intervals until fully melted and smooth when stirred well.
  • Put the bag of green candy melts in the microwave and microwave as you did the chocolate.
  • While the green melts are in the microwave, spread the melted white chocolate on the baking tray. Tip: Use a large offset spatula greased with shortening to help spread the chocolate. You won’t fill up the entire tray, just spread to fill about 80 percent of the tray.
  • Immediately assemble pretzel stick halves on the white chocolate where you want your trees. I fit ten trees on my chocolate.
  • When the green candy melts are ready, snip 1/4 inch from the tip and pipe trees on top of the pretzels. Sprinkle the crushed candy canes on the white chocolate around the trees.
  • Place in the fridge for 15 minutes or at room temperature about 30 minutes, or just until set but still pliable enough to cut without breaking. Cut your pieces of bark around the trees and put back in the fridge until well set, about an hour. Store in the fridge.
