Want to impress your family or guests this holiday season? Kick off your fall baking with this impressive, decadent, luscious but SIMPLE Brown Butter Banana Dutch Baby.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk plus 1/8 cup
  • 3 eggs room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tbs sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup ALL PURPOSE FLOUR (please dont use self-rising flour as a substitute)
  • 4 tbs unsalted butter
  • 2 and a half bananas (save an additional banana for the topping: optional)
  • 2 tbs brown sugar
  • a handful of walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F
  • Add the first 7 ingredients to a blender and mix on low for 30 seconds. You want the batter to be SMOOTH. Pour the batter into a bowl and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, add butter to a cast iron pan/oven proof pan and place it into the oven for 10 minutes or until the butter is brown.
  • ***Note*** try to get the butter browned and the batter finished resting at the same time. You want to keep the pan nice and hot.
  • A couple minutes before the dutch baby is ready to be placed in the oven, split one of the bananas then cut the split bananas in half. Pour the pancake mix into the hot pan with brown butter. Arrange the bananas in the middle of the batter. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  • Coat the entire pan and sides with brown butter. 10 minutes before the dutch baby is done, add the brown sugar, half of the banana and lemon juice to a small bowl and mash and mix.Working quickly, open the oven and remove the dutch baby (make sure you close the oven) and quickly add the brown sugar, banana and lemon mixture on top of the bananas spread it a bit then add the walnuts. Place dutch baby back into the oven to finish baking.
  • A minute or two before the dutch baby is done, slice the other banana for the topping. Remove the dutch baby when it turns golden brown. Place the sliced fresh banana on top of the dutch baby. Add fresh berries or whatever toppings youd like. Serve immediately.
