Description

Dal Palak is a healthy sumptuous dish made from lentils & spinach with a subtle garlicky flavor.

Directions

  • Wash the spinach leaves thoroughly and drain the water in a colander. Chop them finely along with the stems. Wash the moong dal and put it in the cooker along with the chopped spinach. Add half a cup of water along with salt & turmeric powder and stir the mixture. As it gets hot the spinach will start releasing water. Close the cooker and cook it for around 5 minutes till you get 1 whistle. In the meantime, you can prepare the masala. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds in the hot oil and let them splutter. Add grated garlic, ginger and green chillies. When these have roasted add finely chopped onions. Cook the onions till they turn golden brown or translucent. Then add tomatoes along with red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and a pinch of heeng. Sauté till the tempering has cooked. When all the steam has been let out of the pressure cooker, add the cooked dal & palak to the onion tomato masala. Mix well & let it cook for 1-2 minutes. Your dal palak is ready. Serve it hot with Lachcha Parantha & Pickle.
