How To Make Au Jus for French Dip Sandwiches

  • 1/2 cup Red wine

Ingredients

• 1 T butter
• ½ C chopped sweet onion
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• ½ C red wine
• 2 T Worcestershire sauce
• 2 C beef broth
• ½ tsp dry thyme
• ¼ tsp black pepper
• 1 bay leaf

Directions

• Melt butter in a pan over medium/high heat. Add onions and cook 3-4 minutes, just until starting to soften; add garlic. Cook 1 minute more.
• Pour in wine, allow to cook 3-5 minutes, until wine is reduced by at least half.
• Once wine is reduced add Worcestershire sauce, broth, thyme, black pepper and bay leaf. Stir.
• Allow mixture to cook 10 minutes.
• Taste and add salt if needed.
• Remove bay leaf before serving.
• Serve with Au Jus on the side for dipping.
