Okonomiyaki: Japanese Savoury Pancakes

• Produce

  • 100 g Cabbage
  • 1/2 tbsp Pickled ginger
  • 1/4 cup Spring onions

• Refrigerated

  • 1 Egg

• Baking & Spices

  • 100 g Plain flour
  • 1 Toppings

• Oils & Vinegars

  • 1/2 tbsp Cooking oil

• Liquids

  • 100 ml Water

• Other

  • Tenkasu (tempura scraps 1/4 cup

Description

Ingredients

• Cooking oil ½ tbsp
• Toppings (what ever you like, suggestions are thin sliced beef,pork, bacon, shrimp etc.)
• Final Toppings: spring onions, pickled ginger, Okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes

Directions

• Put the flour, egg, and water in a bowl and mix together to make a batter.
• Add the shredded cabbage, spring onions, pickled ginger and tenkasu to the bowl and mix it together
• Pour a little cooking oil in a fry pan (or a hot plate) over medium heat and pour the mixture into the pan.
• Shape it into a neat circle and add your preferred topping on top of the pancake.
• Put a lid over the pan (if using a fry pan) and cook one side for about 5 minutes or until the edges are slightly cooked and formed.
• Flip it over to cook the side with the toppings for another 5 minutes.
• Remove from heat and serve on a plate with the final toppings.
