Can this be preserved in mason jars?

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘preserved’ but if you mean canning I don’t think this recipe would work for that, especially because it contains yogurt. There are a couple of options for keeping this longer though, you can freeze the smoothie (it tastes pretty good, but not quite the same as fresh) or you can make freezer smoothie packs, (I linked to my post below on how to make those) in individual servings so that you can make smaller amounts of smoothie at one time. I hope this helps, and be sure to let me know if you have anymore questions! http://getinspiredeveryday.com/lifestyle/make-your-own-freezer-smoothie-packs/

Tweaked a little bit and lessened most ingredients, minus the yogurt, plus chai seeds, green tea extract, unflavored protein powder, kale, spinach, and Almost/coconut milk. One of the best green smoothies ever.

Thanks for the variation, I’m always looking for another great green smoothie!

would frozen pineapple work ? I have a great big bag from Costco and am looking for ways to use it up.

Frozen pineapple will work perfectly, the smoothie might be a little thicker, but other than that you’re good to go!

can I throw a little protein powder in, Kari?

You can definitely add any kind of protein powder you like the flavor of, protein powder can sometimes give a smoothie a weird flavor, but if you have a brand you already enjoy you’ll be fine. I hope you enjoy the smoothie, and be sure to let me know if you have anymore questions!

Delicious, so good. Thanks for this recepie.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, this is a real favorite with my family and it makes for a great quick breakfast!

Really love the recipe, I haven try it yet, but for sure I’ll make it today, I was just wondering can I use canned pineapple? And thanks againg for your recipes.

You could use canned pineapple but it will really effect the flavor, fresh pineapple is much brighter in taste and has about double the flavor of canned. You can also look for frozen pineapple chunks which would be a little closer to fresh. Hope you enjoy the recipe, and be sure to let me know if you have anymore questions!

I’m hoping to include this delicious smoothie recipe in a preschool cookbook we’re making (not for sale – just for parents). We just installed a new garden (hooray!) and are celebrating with a healthy foods for little people cookbook. We have a “10 things to do with oranges/apples/spinach/bananas etc. pages” and we wanted to include this with our oranges page! Any chance you could email me a higher resolution photo of this smoothie? The image from this site is too small. If you’d rather not have this is a cookbook – totally fine. We DO credit you and your website after the recipe. Thanks!

That would be fine if you’d like to use the recipe in your preschool cookbook, I love the idea of celebrating healthy foods for little people! I’ll send you a photo, and I hope you (and your parent group) enjoy this smoothie recipe!

I don’t drink juice anymore because of the sugar, but you just made my day with this recipe. I get these cravings for something cold and refreshing and this hits the spot!

I would choose smoothies over juice any day, not only are they a whole food but I think they taste better as well!

I cannot handle the fresh tropical flavors of this smoothie! You had me at hello! Pinned!

Tropical flavors are especially appealing right now after several months of winter!

“Regular store bought juice is essentially liquid fruit sugar” amen to that my friend. I try to explain this to my friends but they don’t seem to grasp the concept. They think that store bought juice is the same as fresh pressed juice. They just don’t get it…. Anyways this is a great smoothie Kari, I’m loving that you mixed pineapple with orange, such a great combo!

There are so many of the concepts that we all grew up with, all the while thinking it was a ‘healthy start’ to the day! I love that there’s so much information getting out there now about the benefits of eating real, whole foods! 🙂

You have won me over with the color of this smoothie! That orange/banana/pineapple combo is gorgeous smoothie style. I’m a total freak when it comes to juice, I won’t let my kids touch it with a 10 foot pole (store bought kind) so my neighbors think I’m a total wacko. They offered my kids a Capri Sun the other day and one of those Hugs drinks (100% refined sugar) and I was like, um, I can’t let them drink that! I know I’m insane, but I just can’t do it. Your smoothie tastes so much better and have all the vitamins and minerals I’m looking for. Thanks =)

Let them think you’re crazy, your kids will thanks you later when they grow into strong healthy adults! The funny thing is, even with all the processed food out there it seems like kids will still gravitate to the healthy choices if it’s offered – my nieces and nephews love fresh fruits and veggies, and smoothies are always a hit! 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of fresh pineapple chunks, about 3½ cups

  • Optional:
  • 1-2 cups ice cubes

Directions

  • Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  • If your fruit is at room temperature, you may want to add some ice cubes to your smoothie. Add the ice only after youve blended the fruit, otherwise theres not enough room in the blender.
