Description

This is my standard basic overnight oats recipe. It is on the looser side rather than the thicker, so you can adjust the liquid accordingly. Oats are gluten-free by nature, but if you have celiac disease be sure to buy gluten-free certified oats to avoid cross-contamination. The spices are optional. Extra oats can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

If you didnt plan ahead and soak the raisins overnight, you can modify this on the stovetop by simply skipping the soaking period and simmering longer {about 15 - 20 minutes} or until they plump up. Hot tip: the tea will turn cloudy in the refrigerator, the cloudiness will dissipate once it is heated. Extra raisins can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 4 cups milk {any plant-based milk of your choice}
  • ¼ teaspoon Himalayan pink salt {or sea salt}
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 5 black tea bags {english breakfast, darjeeling, etc.}
  • 1½ cups hot water
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ⅛ teaspoon Himalayan pink salt
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Directions

  • In a glass bowl combine all of the ingredients together and stir. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • This makes 4 large bowls.
  • You can enjoy these oats cold, after theyve been soaking. Or you can warm them on the stove-top. Spoon the black tea soaked raisins on top {see recipe below}.
  • Steep tea in hot water for 6 minutes, and then discard the tea bags. In a large mason jar combine the hot brewed tea, raisins and salt. Cover and refrigerator overnight.
  • Before serving, simmer the raisins on the stove along with half the steeping liquid {reserve the other half to store leftover raisins}, and the maple syrup for 5 minutes or until heated through and slightly thickened.
  • Serves: ½ cup raisins
