Healthy, buckwheat waffles that are free of refined sugar and get an extra health boost from the addition of Hemp Hearts. The perfect breakfast for Christmas morning or a lazy weekend.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat spelt flour
  • 1 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1/4 cup Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp licorice powder
  • 2 tbsp Manitoba Harvest Hemp Oil
  • 3 tbsp molasses
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk

Directions

  • Stir together the flours, hemp hearts, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and licorice powder.
  • Add in the hemp oil, molasses and milk and stir to combine. Use a whisk to whisk the batter for 2-3 minutes to help make the waffles extra fluffy!
  • Heat your waffle iron and then cook the waffles according to the directions of the iron.
  • Serve immediately, topped with fresh fruit, maple syrup, granola and additional hemp hearts, or cool on a rack and then store in the fridge in an airtight container and pop in the toaster to reheat.
