Many years ago a friend got this recipe from someone and she made this and brought this to work, I loved it but she would not divulge the recipe when asked many times and since then I have been looking for a long time, THANK YOU you made my day. P.S. I love this cake .

Very sweet and moist. It didnt taste like cola, but was good. Big hit with the kids!

This cake is good. The people saying the glaze is runny, are you not reading that the 12 oz of Coke needs to be boiled to a reduction of 1/2 cup?

I made this cake and followed the recipe except I substituted coke for cherry coke it was GREAT!! Warning it will give you a sugar high.

Followed recipe exactly and it is really dense. I have made coca cola cake before with a different recipe and it was not like this.

Made this yesterday as a birthday cake for a family friend who is a die hard coke fan. I gave it to him today on his birthday(9-3-16) and he couldnt stop oohhhing and aahhing about it and said it has a strong coke flavor to it. This cake was a huge success and will be made again.

A little gooey for a cake, but good flavors overall. Very sweet.

Very moist & delicious! I did add baking powder to the all-purpose flour. I have tried to bake a cake with just the baking soda added to all-purpose & it just doesnt turn out right. I also had to bake it for 55 min. instead of 25-30 min. Loved the recipe otherwise. I only added 4 oz. of coke to the glaze & the glaze turned out perfect! Butter & confectioners sugar makes a good icing for cakes, so I felt that 12 oz. of coke would be too much. It was just the right consistency. All in all, a very good recipe & easy to make. Will make this again.

This looks great - may try to make it with Diet Coke. Will let yall know how it turns out!

My grandma used to make this cake years ago, and I still remember it as being one of the best chocolate cakes I ever had. Its a classic!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 can (12 ounces) cola
  • 1 cup butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • GLAZE:
  • 1 can (12 ounces) cola
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar, sifted

Directions

  • Directions Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13x9-in. baking pan. In a large bowl, whisk the first five ingredients. In a small saucepan, combine cola, butter and cocoa; bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened. In a small bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk and vanilla until blended; add to flour mixture, whisking constantly. Transfer to prepared pan. Bake 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. About 15 minutes before cake is done, prepare glaze. In a small saucepan, bring cola to a boil; cook 12-15 minutes or until liquid is reduced to 1/2 cup. Stir in butter and cocoa until butter is melted; remove from heat. Add confectioners sugar; stir until smooth. Pour immediately over hot cake. Yield: 15 servings.
