Description

It was a very tasty side. I did omit the hot sauce. Will definitely make again.

I made this recipe twice since I found it on their website a couple of months ago. The macaroni is the best that Ive ever made and my husband loves it. However, I tweaked the recipe as follows: I cut the sausage into quarters instead of large 1 slices before cooking. It just tasted better to us this way. After cooking the sausage, I continued with the recipe in a large pot because there was more room (less likely for the water to boil and spill out of the skillet). I added the sausage into the pot at the end. Lastly, I did not use 5 cups of cheese. Instead, I used TWO (8 oz.) packages of shredded sharp cheddar. It worked out great.

I followed the recipe exactly. It was pretty good but the 2 tsp of hot pepper sauce was actually too spicy for me, and even with 3 cups total of cheese it didnt taste very cheesy to me. It also seemed to need salt. My husband put some bbq sauce in his and loved it.

Ingredients

  • 1 package (13.5 ounce) JOHNSONVILLE® Premium Fully Cooked Polish Kielbasa Sausage Rope, cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
  • 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Toasted bread crumbs, optional

Directions

  • In a 12-inch nonstick skillet, brown sausage over medium-high heat for 3-5 minutes. Transfer to a plate and keep warm. In the same skillet, bring water to a boil. Add pasta, reduce heat, stir often until pasta is al dente, about 8-10 minutes. (Do not drain). In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch, milk and hot pepper sauce. Gradually add to pasta; cook and stir until slightly thickened, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat; add cheeses and sausage. Stir until blended and cheese melts. Sprinkle with crumbs if desired. Serve.
