Description

sharing a little of everything but always saving room for dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 large Vidalia onion, diced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves (2 teaspoons) minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 strip of cooked bacon (prepare in a skillet or oven), chopped
  • Dried or fresh thyme for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Crackers for serving (I used Triscuits)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Add butter and olive oil to a saute pan and place over medium-low heat. Add onions and saute for 20 minutes until soft and caramelized. Next add garlic and saute for 1 additional minute.
  • While onions and caramelzing, cook bacon either in oven or in a skillet. Let cool and chop. If cooking in the oven, preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a rimmed cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place bacon on parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until nicely browned. Drain on a paper towel, let cool, then chop.
  • In a bowl mix together sour cream, mayonnaise, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, worcestershire sauce, black pepper, bacon, onions and garlic. Pour into an oven safe dish and bake for 15 minutes. To brown the top, turn broiler on high and broil for 5-10 minutes or until top is browned. Garnish with thyme and serve with crackers.
