Traditional South African Pancakes

  • 1 Egg

• Condiments

  • 5 ml Lemon juice

• Baking & Spices

  • 5 ml Baking powder
  • 250 ml Flour
  • 2 ml Salt

• Oils & Vinegars

  • 25 ml Cooking oil

• Bread & Baked Goods

  • 1 Cinnamon and sugar to sprinkle over pancakes

• Liquids

  • 300 ml Water

Description

Ingredients

• 250 ml flour
• 2 ml salt
• 5 ml baking powder
• 250 ml water
• 1 egg
• 5 ml lemon juice
• 25 ml cooking oil
• 50 ml additional water
• cinnamon and sugar to sprinkle over pancakes

Directions

• Sift all the dry ingredients together.
• Whisk the egg, water, oil and lemon juice together. Mix the wet and dry ingredients.
• Pour the mixture into a jug and let it rest for 30 minutes.
• Add the additional water to the batter and mix until smooth.
• Heat one tbs. in a non stick pan.
• Pour a small amount of the batter into the pan, just enough to cover the bottom of the pan. Fry it until bubbles appear on the surface, then flip it over to the other side.
• Sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar over the pancake while it is still hot. Repeat steps 6-7 until the batter is finished. Serve warm.
