Description

how a foodie feeds a family

A wonderful rich, warm, and chocolate baked pudding dish with a touch of orange flavor and creamy texture from steel cut oats.

A quick and delicious way to enhance your favorite tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp. orange zest
  • ¾ cup dried cranberries (optional)
  • ice cream or whipped cream, for serving
  • 2-3 droppers full of ZenTea flavor of your choice
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla
  • 8 ounces milk, steamed

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 300º F. Pour steel cut oats into a pie dish or small baking pan and toast for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside. Increase oven temperature to 350ºF. Butter a 2 quart baking dish.
  • If you are using the cranberries, place them in a bowl, pour 1 cup of boiling water over them, and let sit for at least 15 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan combine the toasted oats and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring frequently. After all the water has been absorbed by the oats, stir in butter and chocolate chips until melted.
  • In a separate bowl whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, and orange rind. Slowly pour, while stirring, into oat mixture. Stir in cranberries, if using. Pour into prepared baking dish and bake for 60-70 minutes until edges are set and middle is baked through and not runny. Cool slightly before serving. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.
  • Put tea, sugar, and vanilla in a heatproof mug. Pour steamed milk over it and stir vigorously until well combined.
