Description

A neighbor brought over a pan of these rich brownies along with the recipe when I came home from the hospital with our baby daughter. Ive made them ever since for family occasions, potlucks and parties at work. —Sue Soderlund, Elgin, Illinois

The frosting is what makes these brownies extra special!! So dont skimp on the frosting!! Lol

very good I didnt try the FROSTING: next time and ill add some nuts too to it

Great recipe, tastes just like my grandma used to make!

These were more cakey than fudgey, but very chocolately and good! I added sprinkles to the top and used unsalted butter.

A little to chocolaty for me, but loved the moist brownie taste. Everyone devoured it at the Sunday dinner!

Excellent, love those mushy type brownies.

too cut back on the sodium intake... I use unsalted butter! and cut back on the sugar content as well to 1 1/4 cups! cant tell the difference either and I cheated... i used 2 different cans of chocolate frosting... every1 thought I had worked so hard to make these... little piggs!

My boys (who are avid boxed brownie fans) really enjoyed these. I will definitely be making them again.

3 stars for the frosting. These didnt come out Fudge-like and they tasted too salty. The frosting was absolutely delicious, Im going to use it for other frosted goodies in the future.

Fantastic. Best brownie recipe ever and easy to make. Added chocolate chips (as if there werent enough chocolate) at husbands request. Amazing!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FROSTING:
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2-2/3 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup whole milk

Directions

  • Directions In a saucepan, melt butter. Remove from the heat. Stir in cocoa; cool. In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until blended. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to egg mixture. Stir in vanilla and the cooled chocolate mixture until well blended. Spread into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (do not overbake). Cool on a wire rack. For frosting, in a large bowl, cream butter and confectioners sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in cocoa and vanilla. Add enough milk until the frosting achieves spreading consistency. Spread over brownies. Cut into bars. Yield: 2 dozen.
