  • 3 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (test with wrist)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk (microwave 30 sec and test with wrist)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp salt
  • approx. 6-8 cups flour

Directions

  • In large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast into warm water.
  • Add milk, sugar, shortening, egg, salt and 4 cups flour. Stir well.
  • Slowly stir in remaining flour (only add as much as needed) until soft dough forms.
  • Turn onto floured surface and knead 5 minutes.
  • Place dough in bowl and cover with tea towel. Let sit in a warm place to rise 30 minutes.
  • Punch dough down slightly. Divide into 24 balls and place in large baking pan.
  • Cover with clean towel and let rise in a warm place for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400 and bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serves: 24 rolls
