Description

Learn how to use buttercream frosting and the Wilton star tip to create this beautiful Christmas Tree Cake Strung With Lights!

Ingredients

  • Clear Piping Gel
  • Parchement Paper
  • Four No. 3 Wilton Decorating Tips to be used for Black, Yellow, Red, and Blue
  • Two No. 18 Wilton Decorating Tips to be used for Green and Brown
  • Disposable Decorating Bags
  • Wilton Icing Colors: Leaf Green, No-Taste Red, Lemon Yellow, Black, Brown, Royal Blue
  • Buttercream icing (homemade or store-bought)

Directions

  • Prepare your icing colors. Youll need about ¼ cup of each: no-taste red, lemon yellow, black, brown, and royal blue. Youll need about ½ cup of leaf green.
  • Place your red icing in a disposable decorating bag with a coupler and tip No. 3. Repeat for lemon yellow, black, and royal blue. Place your leaf green icing in a disposable decorating bag with a coupler and tip No. 18. Repeat for brown.
  • Find a christmas tree outline online and print onto a piece of paper. Place your printed outline underneath a piece of parchment paper and tape it down on a hard surface. Place 1 tablespoon of clear piping gel into a disposable decorating bag (no coupler) and cut a small hole in the tip. Use your printed outline as a guide and slowly squeeze out the piping gel onto parchment paper.
  • Once you have outlined the shape using piping gel, turn the parchment paper over and place face-down on the top of your cake. Lightly run a paintbrush or your finger over the outline to adhere the piping gel to your cake then slowly remove the parchment paper.
  • Use brown icing and tip No. 18 to fill in the tree stump with stars. Then, use green icing and tip No. 18 to fill in the christmas tree with stars. Use the same technique to pipe stars along the bottom of the cake to create a border. Let dry for 10 minutes.
  • Use black icing and tip No. 3 to pipe long strands across the christmas tree. Make sure to space these out vertically so that you have room for the light bulbs. On each strand, pipe a small line that will act as a placeholder for each lightbulb. Let dry for 10 minutes.
  • Use red icing and tip No. 3 to pipe a light bulb on every third black line. Repeat this process for the blue and yellow light bulbs.
